• Remembrance Day 2020

This year’s Remembrance Day Service has been cancelled, due to current lockdown restrictions, but we hope that villagers are able to take a few minutes of quiet reflection to pause to remember and express our gratitude to all those who served and continue to serve their country, some of whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, this current crisis has changed our perspective on the way we live our lives; the freedom all those fought for is more valued than we had realised. The modern day heroes that deserve our appreciation are not fighting a war far from home, but are living amongst us.  We have seen an army of volunteers help others in their local communities, and those working in the NHS and in other roles on the frontline, demonstrating commitment, dedication and compassion – the soldiers of this war against the pandemic.

We have also seen the selfless actions of veterans, such as Sir Tom Moore, who have done so much good, and inspired others of all generations, uniting us as a nation and lifting our spirits.

In these difficult times, please be considerate and kind to each other.  This pandemic will pass and, in the words of Sir Tom Moore, ‘Tomorrow will be a good day’.

  • COVID-19: Social Distancing

In the past few days Wortwell Parish Council has received a couple of complaints from villagers with regards to social distancing and the lack of respect for the current advice we are all asked to comply with. Subsequently, the Chairman has been in contact with the police to report these issues.

If villagers have any concerns or issues over people defying government guidelines on social distancing or unacceptable behaviour, they should telephone the police directly on 101, but they need to act when the offence is in progress.

With regards to the allotments, tenants are being scrupulously careful to stay inside their 250sq perimeter and are using this as their daily exercise. Social distancing is very strictly adhered to and rarely more than three or four plotholders are present at any one time. Gardening and allotments are permitted, indeed encouraged, as they are growing their own food, taking pressure off the supply chains.

    NHS overview and advice

The COVID-19 pandemic is putting the wellbeing of millions of people at risk. At this difficult time for the global community we can each play a vital role in helping to reduce the impact and look after ourselves and each other.

The Action for Happiness response to COVID-19:

    1. Listen to the experts
Leading health authorities tell us that our actions now can reduce the burden on the healthcare systems and help save lives. We all need to respond.
    2. Keep calm (but don’t carry on)
In light of the latest expert advice, our recommendation is to avoid non-essential face-to-face gatherings for the time being to help slow the spread of the virus.
    3. Make wise & kind choices
We can all help to reduce the impact of this virus by looking after our own health, washing our hands, self-isolating if needed and being kind and considerate to others.
