Nature Recovery in Wortwell

Wortwell Parish Council has recently adopted an Environmental and Biodiversity Policy. This means the council are now committed to enhancing biodiversity in our village.

This year we will again be participating in “No Mow May”, an annual campaign run by Plantlife. By participating in this we will leave areas of grass uncut in spring to allow wild flowers and grasses to flower and go to seed, which in turn will provide a food resources for many species of insect. By area, garden habitats exceed the total extent of all the UK’s National Nature Reserves put together, so everyone has the chance to make a real difference in their gardens.

Many villagers are already installing bird boxes and bug hotels or leaving areas for nature and we would love to hear any of your success stories, so other people can do the same. The Parish Council would also like to hear from anyone who could help in a working party, to plant
pollinator friendly plants or install bird boxes and bug hotels in the village.
