  • Overgrown Hedges & Plants

A Plea from Wortwell Parish Council

Could property and landowners please ensure that their hedges and plants remain inside their own boundaries and that public footpaths are cleared of overgrowth to enable walkers and ramblers to pass freely.

A period of amnesty throughout September and October will apply.  Thereafter, if not dealt with, the Parish Council will have to approach the South Norfolk Council
enforcement officer to resolve and pass on any costs to the landowner or property owner.

    Thank you.

  • Volunteers needed for Wortwell Community Speedwatch

Wortwell Parish Council, in liaison with Norfolk Police, intends to set up a Community Speed Watch and is looking for village volunteers to come forward to  make this happen.

Community Speed Watch is a community operated initiative designed to allow volunteers to officially monitor and report to the Police details of speeding vehicles in areas of concern to the community. Community Speed Watch is not enforcement.

The initiative allows members of the community to address speeding issues by becoming actively involved in road safety, using speed detection equipment to monitor speeds from safe locations. The aim is NOT to catch as many speeding drivers as possible but to raise awareness that excessive speeds are socially unacceptable. We aim to reduce speed in areas of concern and address issues from our community by raising awareness.

    To set up a scheme:

    • We must have a minimum of 6 volunteers.
    • All the volunteers must be over 18 years old.
    • The scheme must have a Co-ordinator (who will be the point of contact for the team) and where possible a Deputy.
    • Volunteers will have to sign a Community Speed Watch
      agreement and be vetted.
    • Equipment will be provided by the Constabulary
    • Training will be provided on using the equipment and on Health and Safety issues.
    • Volunteers will be covered by the Constabulary’s insurance.
    • Locations chosen will assessed by the Constabulary.

If you are interested in volunteering and/or to discuss moving forward in setting up the Community Speed Watch scheme, please contact Samantha Homewood at
    [email protected]

  • Wortwell Village Fete 18 June 2023

“The weather threatened rain but nothing was going to stop our village fête from going ahead, and in the end, the sun shone on us.

We had games, stalls and some car booters, along with a beer tent, BBQ and cakes and refreshments. So plenty for everyone.

The attendance was sadly low; we had hoped for more. But that didn’t stop us from giving our best to those who did come along and everyone seemed to have fun.

I’d like to thank all those who contributed to the event be that with prizes, food, objects or their time and energy. There are too many to mention by name but hopefully you know who you are.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes one to make a community and keep the community centre running. So if there are any events you would like to see at the CORE, or if you’d like to join our events team, please do let us know. You can contact us via our Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/thecorewortell) or by email to [email protected]
