Wortwell is holding a reunion for all who had or have a connection with the village past or present. It has all come about as a result of the Facebook site, “Wortwell Bell memories” being set up by Steve Rogers in February 2012, which now has over 300 members, with old photographs, many of which I am sure will be brought along on the night, and stories on it mainly from those who were born & brought up in the village as well as those who played for the football & cricket teams over the years.
I ( Dave Loome) was born & brought up there during the 1950’ 60’s & 70’s and like many others believe the village community spirit and the characters of Wortwell were unique, for me personally & I know many others feel the same, Wortwell was like a big family as much as a community & even now if we meet up we greet each other as family something that appears to have been lost from village life today.
Many of the members now live all over the country and have done so for many years, but will be coming back to the reunion to relive those happy days and revive those happy & treasured memories we all have of this village.
Myself & the members of the working party setting this up have been overwhelmed but not surprised by the enthusiasm & encouragement to have such a reunion, which to me endorses how Wortwell still holds so much affection and happy memories to so many people who were part of it at sometime.
SO WHATS HAPPENING; The reunion will be at Wortwell Community Centre on Saturday 25th June 2016 at 7-00pm. There will be a disco & a hog roast available. There is no funding for the event so we will be relying on donations & raffle prizes from those attending, knowing the people as I do I am sure this will not be a problem. We are asking those who have not acknowledged their attendance on the Facebook site to let either Dave Loome on 01502 716026 or Ray Collings on 01379 852472 in order we have an idea of numbers to cater for.
