DOGS

Dog owners are reminded that it is offence for a person in control of a dog not to clear up the dog mess immediately on any land that is open to the air and to which the public is entitled or permitted to have access.

Please also be reminded that Wortwell Parish Council has a byelaw applying to the playing fields whereby no person in charge of a dog (other than a
registered blind person in charge of a dog) shall permit the dog to enter or
remain in the grounds.

We are relatively new to the village and so the ban on dogs was already in force when we moved to Wortwell. We’re used to a more inclusive PC that make provision for dog owners, who after all, pay the same taxes and so should have the same right to exercise their chosen interest as, say, a footballer, or bowls player, or a child on the newly installed zip line.

Can you please tell me what was done to provide a fenced off area for dog exercising, fencing off the play equipment, with perhaps self-closing gates or dog grids to ensure dogs did not go into that area, BEFORE going for full ban? And given that guide dogs ARE permitted, could you please tell me what provisions are in place to ensure no dog faeces are on the park after such use, as I’m assuming this is the reason the ban was brought into force in the first place? Does the ban include other assistance dogs or are other disabled groups discriminated against? And finally could you please furnish me with the link to the actual byelaw being used.

I know for sure we are not the only dog owners in the village to be frustrated by this situation, especially given the very rare use one of the playing fields actually sees from any other section of the village populace. Surely in a time when everyone is fighting for equality it’s time we were heard and considered!

    Thank you.

      Good morning Tina

Thank you for your email. I have passed this on to the Parish Clerk, Mrs Lua Leggett, for her attention.

      Kind regards
